TV ad will hit McConnell for taking money from Big Oil

Americans United for Change say they will spend $100,000 on broadcasting an ad hitting Sen. Mitch McConnell for the money he has taken from Big Oil and his opposition to clean energy legislation. The ad will run on Lexington and Louisville television stations June 1-4.

Here’s a statement from Tom McMahon, the group’s executive director:
“We understand that Senator McConnell has been given nearly a million reasons by the big oil companies to stand in the way of clean energy legislation. But there are 50,000 reasons for Senator McConnell to break his addiction to big oil money gushing into the Gulf of Mexico by the barrel every day – 50,000 reasons to join Democratic efforts in Congress to reduce the nation’s dependence on oil. In the face of an environmental catastrophe of this magnitude, we hope that even the distinguished leader of the Grand Oil Party will think twice before standing with the polluters and standing in the way of a clean energy future and new clean energy jobs for Kentucky. If Senator McConnell is truly interested in making our nation more secure, he must support this legislation that will cut our dependence on foreign oil and cut deep into Middle East oil profits that wind up in the hands of our enemies. But so far, he has only expressed interested in securing more and more of the big oil money that has polluted our politics for decades.”
